How to Apply to an Academic Conference Call for Papers

Beginning the Process:

  1. Read the CFP carefully and take note of the submission deadline
  2. Familiarize yourself with buzzwords and themes listed in the CFP
  3. Consider your audience as you orient your topic to fit around the CFP

Components:

  1. Consider what type of presentation you want to give (individual paper, panel, workshop or research posters)
  2. Engage with the conference theme
  3. Be clear and concise to not go over the word count

Writing:

  1. Outline your topic and demonstrate how it relates to the larger disciplinary themes
  2. Provide a specific connection for why your research is important
  3. Avoid over-the-top phrases and jargon
  4. If you would like to add a quote be sure to cite properly

Submission:

  1. Proofread; check for mistakes
  2. Submit prior to the deadline
